WRITING CONTEST

Come one, come all.  Attention to all Form 4, 5 & 6 students, you are invited to celebrate the Language Week by participating in this Writing Contest.
Contest Overview
  • Students must submit a 500-word essay about one of the following questions:
Form 6 (Theme: Education)
  1. Possessing a university education is critical for one to compete globally in today’s society. What is your opinion?
  2. The main function of education is to enable people to gain employment. What is your opinion?
Form 4 & 5 (Theme: Environment)
  1. Write a short story beginning with “I remember the day of the storm ….”
  2. Earth Day
  • Five essays (depending on the total number of entries) will be chosen from each form.
  • Winning students will receive a prize and a certificate.
  • The winning essays will be published and posted on the Internet at http://smkmbi.blogspot.com/
Judging criteria:

Content
:
Does the essay reflect substance and careful thought?
Clarity
:
Form 6 - Is there a clear link between the importance/function of education and today’s global demand?
Form 4 & 5 - Is there a clear link between memorable/significant event(s)/incident(s) and the main characters in the plot? Is the message clearly conveyed?
Creativity
:
Does the essay stand apart from the others for its effectiveness in conveying the writer’s opinion/story?
Mechanics
:
Has the student used correct grammar, spelling, punctuation and tone?
Length
:
All entries must be limited to 500 words.

Submit your essay to your English teacher by 8th April 2011 (Friday).
